Pharmaceutical Company: Migrating Content to OpenText Documentum for Life Sciences Under Pressure

Challenge

A global generic and specialty pharmaceutical company had the task of incorporating data that was handed over to them from a different pharmaceutical company via an acquisition to their new Documentum for Life Sciences environment. A critical legal timeline was set to complete the handover of this data as there would no longer be access to the source data after this date. The client had no direct access to the source system. Therefore, the content and metadata had to be extracted and transferred over for further processing.

On the target system side this information had to be parsed and converted to the necessary target data model. There were several classifications of documents that had to be taken into consideration:

  1. Documents that should not be migrated to the target system.
  2. Legacy documents that should be migrated as-is to a legacy area as no easy mapping was possible.
  3. Active documents that should be mapped to Documentum for Life Sciences Research & Development and Quality & Manufacturing solutions.
